Tannery Pond Environmental Improvements receives the PRO Award for Excellence in Design...
http://www.prontario.org/index.php/ci_id/3404.htmHarrington McAvan Ltd's Tannery Pond Environmental Improvement Project for the City of Markham is the 2012 Winner of the PRO Excellence in Design Award from Parks and Recreation Ontario.
Tannery Pond is an important historical feature within Old Markham Village, containing the remnants of an original mill and dam structure, and the abandoned artesian wells that once supplied the City's drinking water.
A portion of the work was completed by Ontario Streams, a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to the conservation and rehabilitation of streams and wetlands, and the project supports the efforts of the MNR and TRCA. The environmental improvements undertaken by the City of Markham at Tannery Pond exemplify the City's commitment to the natural environment and provide opportunities for residents and nature to coexist, while strategically addressing ongoing maintenance requirements in a sophisticated and informed manner.
